The recent Israeli airstrike has rendered Iran’s main petrochemical plant, located in Asaluyeh, inoperable. According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, this facility accounts for approximately 50% of the Persian country’s petrochemical production and adds to a previous attack carried out a week ago, which also affected another plant. Together, both infrastructures are responsible for nearly 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports and have been rendered “inoperable.” Katz described the attack as a “severe economic blow” to the Iranian regime, estimating losses that could reach tens of billions of dollars.
Iranian media reported that the Pars Sur facilities, which house significant natural gas reserves, were also targeted during the offensive. The Fars news agency, linked to the Revolutionary Guard, reported explosions at the South Pars complex. Companies responsible for providing essential services to the petrochemicals, such as electricity and water, have been affected, which will disrupt energy supply in the region until necessary repairs are made.
Katz, along with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has ordered the continuation of attacks, warning that actions in response to aggression against Israel will intensify the damage to Iran.
