A shooting outside ‘La Peña de Los Andes’, located on Industrial Avenue in the district of Independencia, resulted in a tragic outcome: one dead and two injured. The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. when four individuals on two motorcycles fired shots at the entrance of the establishment, where three men working as security were hit by the bullets.
The deceased was identified as José Dante Valdera Cachay, 42, who died instantly after being shot twice, once in the chest and once in the arm. Valdera, who had worked at the venue for three years, leaves behind two minor children. His brother revealed that the family had suggested José change jobs due to the extortion threats the establishment was facing.
The injured, Javier Barrantes Zelada and Jesús Maestre Guzmán, were rushed to Jesús del Norte clinic, where they are currently hospitalized. The shooting coincided with the anniversary of guitarist Alexander Carrasco, and it was reported that the venue had been dealing with extortion issues, as stated by some artists present.
Valdera’s body is at the Central Morgue of Lima for the necessary procedures. This incident adds to other recent attacks in the area, reflecting the growing insecurity in the district. For more details on the insecurity, you can read this report.
