This morning, Lima was shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 4.1, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP). The epicenter was located in the sea, 87 kilometers southwest of Huacho, in the province of Huaura, at a depth of 57 kilometers. The tremor was felt with an intensity of II-III on the Mercalli scale in Huacho. Fortunately, local authorities have reported no material damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. Additionally, the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy confirmed that there is no tsunami alert for the Peruvian coast.

This seismic event is the second of the day, following a stronger tremor of magnitude 5.9 that occurred in San Martín. In light of the seismic activity, the head of the IGP, Hernando Tavera, urged the population to build on safe soils and follow technical standards to mitigate risks. “The seismic threat in Peru is real and permanent,” Tavera warned, reminding that the country is in one of the most seismically active zones in the world.
