Lima-Chosica Train TODAY: Ready to Start Operations, Awaiting MTC Authorization

The Mayor of Lima, Renzo Reggiardo, reported that the train connecting Lima to Chosica is prepared to begin operations this week, provided it receives authorization from the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). During the inauguration of the new Morón bridge over the Rímac River, Reggiardo emphasized that coordination with Minister Aldo Prieto Barrera has been ongoing, although official approval is still needed to commence service.

“Everything is ready to start this week. I just need the minister’s authorization,” said the mayor, who expressed his hope that the project, aimed at alleviating traffic in the eastern part of the capital, will materialize soon.

The Lima-Chosica train is part of an agreement signed on December 29, 2025, between the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) and the MTC. This agreement establishes that the service will be managed by the state, with fares determined by the Urban Transport Authority. The project has been redesigned, starting with trial runs and an express service with limited stops. The MML is also considering transferring ownership of the train to the MTC, which has the support of Proinversión for the necessary procedures.
