San Lorenzo Announces Gustavo Álvarez as New Coach After Pablo Guede’s Decline

San Lorenzo de Almagro has confirmed Gustavo Álvarez as its new head coach following Pablo Guede’s refusal. The Argentine club was seeking the Alianza Lima coach to lead the team for the remainder of the season, but Guede decided to stay in Peru. “San Lorenzo de Almagro informs that Gustavo Álvarez is the new Head Coach of the Club’s First Division,” they announced through their social media channels.

The new coach, 53 years old, has an impressive track record in South American football, having won the 2023 Primera División of Chile with Huachipato, as well as the 2024 Copa Chile and the 2025 Supercopa de Chile with Universidad de Chile. Álvarez will join the squad immediately, overseeing the training scheduled for this Monday.

San Lorenzo currently occupies the tenth position in Group A of the Argentine league, with 13 points, 9 points behind leaders Vélez Sarsfield. Álvarez’s arrival aims to improve the team’s performance and climb the standings.
