Zé Ricardo at Sporting Cristal: First Training Session and Focus on Cerro Porteño

Sporting Cristal has taken a new step in its season by introducing Zé Ricardo as its new head coach. The Brazilian took over the position following the departure of Paulo Autuori and, just a week after his official announcement, conducted his first training session at the La Florida headquarters in Rímac. The Rimense team is looking to revitalize its performance after the recent defeat against CD Moquegua in the 2026 Apertura Tournament.

During his first practice, Zé Ricardo met with the players before starting training sessions, both with and without the ball. On the club’s social media, it was highlighted that the new coach is already focused on the upcoming challenge: the match against Cerro Porteño in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. This match, scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at 9:00 p.m. at the Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, will be Zé Ricardo’s first challenge in the continental tournament.

The venue, which was closed following the death of a fan, may be reopened in time for the match. Sporting Cristal’s group stage also includes other teams such as Palmeiras and Junior. For more details on the tournament schedule, you can check our complete coverage.
