Colombian football is in mourning following the tragic death of Santiago Castrillón, an 18-year-old player from the Millonarios club. Castrillón passed away in Bogotá a day after collapsing during a match in the National U20 Tournament against Santa Fe. The incident occurred on the field, where the player collapsed and was quickly attended to by the team’s medical staff. He was transported to a hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but despite medical efforts, he could not recover and died on Sunday night.
Millonarios, in an emotional statement, expressed their sorrow: “Today football stops. The blue heart is broken… Santiago did not just play football. He lived it.” The club highlighted his talent and the joy he brought to every match. The news has caused shock within the football community. Forward Radamel Falcao mourned the loss, remembering Castrillón as a teammate full of dreams and talent. The Colombian Football Federation also paid tribute to the young player, who had recently been called up to the U19 national team.
