Port of Callao: Panamax Vessel Unloads 77,000 Tons of Wheat in 3 Days

The Port of Callao has achieved a milestone by receiving one of the largest vessels in its history. This Panamax, coming from Canada, transported 77,000 metric tons of bulk wheat, essential for the local food industry. The unloading of the cargo was completed at the North Terminal in a record time of just three days, thanks to the implementation of modern equipment such as Continuous Ship Unloaders (CSU).

Stephany Bravo de Rueda, general cargo commercial manager at APM Terminals Callao, highlighted that this operation demonstrates Callao’s readiness to accommodate large vessels with high productivity levels. This advancement not only optimizes the unloading time, which previously took six days, but also positions the North Dock as one of the most efficient in the region.

The arrival of this vessel reinforces Peru’s competitiveness in international logistics, aligning with global trends of efficiency and economies of scale. This opens the door to a greater number of large vessels, marking a significant change in national maritime transport.
