Holy Week 2026: How Much You Will Earn If You Work on Holy Thursday and Good Friday

With the arrival of Holy Week 2026, workers who labor during the holidays of Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, could receive up to three times their daily wage. This increase applies to those who, due to service needs, must work on these festive days.

According to the Legal Center of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), employees who agree to work during the holidays are entitled to additional compensation. This consists of three parts: payment for the holiday, the amount corresponding to the work performed, and an additional payment for working on a holiday, as established by Legislative Decree 713.

For example, a worker earning S/60 daily, if they work on Holy Thursday, would receive S/180, broken down into S/60 for the holiday, S/60 for the work performed, and S/60 as a surcharge. If they also work on Good Friday, their total increase would be S/240 by the end of the month.

It is essential for employers to comply with this regulation, as non-compliance can lead to economic penalties ranging from S/1,265 to S/288,915. Workers have the right to refuse to work on holidays without proper compensation and can file complaints with the National Superintendence of Labor Inspection (Sunafil).
