National Painting Competition 2026: Winning and Finalist Works on Display

The exhibition of the winning and finalist works from the XVI National Painting Competition of the Central Reserve Bank has been inaugurated at MUCEN and will be open to the public until May 3rd. This showcase represents a contemporary look at current Peruvian painting, highlighting the quality and diversity of the themes addressed.

The winning piece, “Puerto Linda” by Úrsula Mur, is inspired by the Awajún community. The painting features two characters who gaze directly at the viewer, creating a connection that invites reflection on the cultural richness and community work in the Amazon.

On the other hand, “El Huishmabu” by Fredy Tuanama explores the origins of the Shipibo-Konibo people, merging elements of the legend of the Sun and the Moon with influences from 1970s rock music, creating a dialogue between traditional art and contemporary expressions.

Among the finalists are prominent artists such as Graciela Arias, Marialejandra Lozano, and Adriana Ciudad, who also contribute a unique perspective to the exhibition. The variety of styles and backgrounds, including artists from regions like Loreto and Ayacucho, further enriches the showcase.
