Chinese Atomic Clock: The Smallest Device Transforming Military Drones

Scientists from Wuhan University in China have developed an extremely compact atomic clock, with a volume of just 2.3 cubic centimeters. This innovative device, about the size of a fingernail, promises to revolutionize the synchronization of critical systems in the military sector, surpassing the dimensions of American technology. According to the Changjiang Daily, this atomic clock loses only one second every 30,000 years, ensuring unprecedented accuracy.

The miniaturization of the component allows for its integration into military drones, enhancing swarm coordination and ensuring optimal operation even in situations where GPS may fail. The team, led by Professor Chen Jiehua, has implemented an innovative method that uses tiny lasers and alkaline atoms to establish a stable frequency reference. This technique, known as coherent population trapping, enables the system to function within an integrated circuit, optimizing space while maintaining precision.
